Nicandra Pod and Leaf - Brooch
The flower bud and subsequent dried pod of the tall Nicandra bush in my garden captivated my interest for carving its form. The buds dangle from a delicate stem on an arching branch with many other buds, on a large bush of many branches. The flowers emerge for a few hours on a single day, the next day another set of buds blossom. Within the papery covering a seed ball matures, much like a tomatillo plant.
Material:
White Ivorywood (from Mark Sfiri)
Sterling Silver
Dimensions:
2.4 x 1.9 x 1.3 inches
6.2 x 4.8 x 3.3 cm
#502
